The latest revision of lepidopterans in Sri Lanka indicates 1093 species, of which are 58 families of butterflies and moths. Of these 1903 species, 208 species are butterflies and 1695 species are moths. Interestingly the largest Moth in the world the Atlas moth (Attacus atlas) has been observed in Sri Lanka. This goes to confirm that Sri Lanka is an important and favourable destination for the observation and study of moths.
