Wild Visitors

Most prominent amongst our wild visitors are the elephants, they can frequently be observed from the lodge itself. The bush and forest around the lodge is connected to a natural part of the Yala jungles in the southeast corner of Sri Lanka, a region probably accommodating more than 500 wild elephants. Mostly during the dry season, herds of elephants moving around in the area, attracted by food and water holes. A few male elephants are resident in the Weliara jungle, from time to time elephant herds are come into the area.

A Night in the Elephant Country

Night in the jungle is an experience of darkness and defining sounds of wilderness. Elephants frequently visit the lodge premises at night and sometimes even before the daylight fades around 6 – 7 pm. They can be heard or seen near the lodge at night, and seen as dark shadows gliding over the landscape when the moon is full. When elephants pass by they are usually very silent but occasionally they are heard breaking branches or trumpeting. This is nightlife at Tree Tops Jungle Lodge. An experience of a lifetime.
